One change was to reduce the designs used for the skeletons of notebook PCs

With that 1.3GHz CPU and with a whopping 4GB of DDR3 RAM, the UL30A-A1 scored an impressive 2,112 on our PCMark Vantage test. This is about 800 marks below the category average (consisting of notebooks that cost around $2,000), but it’s 500 marks faster than the $749 HP Pavilion dv2-1030us. (The PCMark Vantage test measures CPU performance.)

Combined audio converter/driver ICs are simplifying the design of set-top boxes and other consumer audio/video products, but the new TS4657 from STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a leading provider of digital audio ICs, improves on this by saving additional external components while reducing power consumption and improving sound quality.

One change was to reduce the designs used for the skeletons of notebook PCs, said these people. “Simplifying the specifications of the product” saves money by allowing contract manufacturers to make large numbers of the same product, said Lorcan Sheehan, a consultant with ModusLink, which advises H-P and other PC makers.

However, Puget and other custom PC makers may be a bit too optimistic. A Microsoft spokesperson explains, “October 12 is the date that Microsoft enables our Authorized Replicators to begin shipping Windows 7 to Microsoft OEM Authorized Distributors… So, while in theory a System Builder could get Windows 7 product pre-GA (general availability), based on supply chain analysis, the intended timing for customers to receive Windows 7 PCs from System Builders should be close to GA, on October 22nd.”

You can avoid this by just using one hand on the touchpad and lifting your finger and moving to the integrated buttons when you wan to click. But that leads to the second problem: If you don’t hit the integrated buttons in exactly the right spot, you’ll instead implement the tap-to-click touchpad feature. So you’ll sometimes wind up causing a left-click action when you meant to right-click. The only way I’ve found to avoid this problem is to disable the tap-to-click feature.

The M17x is Alienware’s latest laptop, and they really went all out on this one. It’s a powerhouse of a gaming laptop, and runs pretty much everything I could throw at it flawlessly. From a performance standpoint, you definitely get what you pay for with this machine.

HP’s Pavilion Slimline s5160f is a small desktop that is aimed at those looking to use the system for a media center or even a home theater PC. This slim desktop system comes packed with a variety of multimedia features. The most notable of these are the Blu-ray combo drive for playback of Blu-ray or DVD movies and the HDTV tuner for use with over the air digital broadcasts. Both of these are key to its media focus but other small details such as the IR blaster for controlling other devices and the NVIDIA GeForce G210 graphics card help.

As was done in the original Adamo, is blocked to keep information on the new Dell XPS Adamo

As was done in the original Adamo, is blocked to keep information on the new Dell XPS Adamo. All we know is that the machine is thinner than the MacBook 0.76 inches and 0.65 inches Adamo. The XPS is a 13-inch screen as the first Adam, and will likely continue the trend Adamo are equally ridiculous price.

The Toshiba Dynabook MX/33 a 1.3 GHz single core Intel Celeron 743 processor, a battery of 9.5 hours and a 11.6-inch screen 1366 x 768 pixels. It is a hard disk of 250 GB and 2 GB of RAM and running Windows 7

The Satellite U500 series are not only lightweight, highly mobile phones are a fashion statement. Living with a 13.3 inch screen high-definition widescreen, unique texture, and impressive multimedia performance surface to the interior to the outside with dual-core processors from Intel, these functions are secure ultraportable with style and travel and life of the battery and a starting point for weighing only 5 pounds. The Satellite U500 series is available in four versions colors to match your personal style – Luxury red, white, pink and brown. A touch-screen model is also available. Prices start at $ 698.99 MSRP.

However, please note that Dell XPS describes the concept as a machine that is not ready for production. It is unclear when (and if) the XPS will see the light of the world, but my money is on the beautiful thin model that stands in the coming months.

After that he began with Alibaba , which was fully aware of the importance of electronic commerce. Once we have worked together more, we begin the serious search for e-mail address for each buyer and are using our products adapted to their needs. We believe that success comes from good quality, excellent service, competitive pricing, technical expertise, advanced R & D and personal motivation.

For the same price as a premium netbook, the networks Compaq CQ61 Dispay 15.6 inch with a dual-core AMD Sempron processor M100 (2 GHz, 512 KB L2 cache). Other specifications are 2 GB of RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics card, a hard disk of 160 GB, DVD burner, Windows 7 and Home Premium 6-cell battery.

How long will the new Adam Ant is thinnest is another matter. The notebooks are thin quickly as the spokesperson for Weight Watchers. In the year 2005, with his laptop Asus ultra-thin 0.9-inch – but boasted in an article on the MacBook Air, which is practically obese.

The software can estimate the cost of the performance of the laptop for a day, week or year. This is done by measuring the cost per kilowatt-hour, according to rates of a public service that must be entered manually. This capability helps managers set goals for saving energy and budget on a single machine or a fleet of laptops over time.

Some ultraportables Connections – Adamo such as Dell and MacBook Air – tipped the scales at almost 3 pounds, but the laptops feel as if they were able to create a cruise this team compared to light. Although the X VAIO has a 11-inch screen, you can not much lighter than the weight loss of 1.6 kilos of beauty, even if you’re in a netbook with a 9 – or 10 inches.

Netbooks are the hottest trend in personal computers today

Technically, the T135-S1300 leaves nothing to be desired as far as ports and features. In addition to a sleep-and-charge USB port, there’s also an SD card reader and an HDMI port. Which raises the question: why include an HDMI port? To have one suggests the T135-S1300 is an HD-savvy laptop. That’s hardly the case. While video files tended to play borderline passably, streaming full-screen video from sites such as Hulu came in extremely choppy, and that was in low-res mode. While it’s true that HDMI is fast becoming a universal CE standard, we’re not exactly sure what you would use the included HDMI port for.

Acer’s Veriton X270-ED7400C seems tailor-made for the struggling economy. It’s a business PC that only costs $500, but it provides a better experience in running a business than a nettop or netbook. The Veriton eschews some features to hit its low price, but it should be enough to help the majority of one-to-three-person shops keep their books straight and conduct business, whatever their specialty.

Netbooks are very specialized computer systems. They are designed to be compact, low cost and have very long running times. In order to achieve these goals, the manufacturers have to make a number of sacrifices. Processors must be slower and have fewer cores making them unable to run certain applications and slower at others.

DVD drives are completely removed preventing playback of CDs or DVDs and making it difficult to install store bought software. They are also restricted in the amount of memory and storage space they can have by the Microsoft operating system licenses. More detail about all of this can be found in my What Are Netbooks? article.

The Veriton X270-ED7400C sits in a small-form-factor (SFF) chassis, about 4 by 10.5 by 12.5 inches (HWD), that’s very similar to that of its cousin on the consumer side, the Aspire X1700-U3700A. The Veriton shares many of the same ports, including HDMI, eSATA, S/PDIF, and a built-in media-card reader.

Like the Aspire, the Veriton uses a full-size optical drive and internal hard drive. Both are cheaper, easier to swap out, and likely to be faster than the notebook-class drives found in systems like the Apple Mac mini and HP dc7900.

This Windows Vista Business-based laptop (with the downgrade to Windows XP exercised on our model) includes an Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 ULV processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 2GB of RAM, a 64GB, although only Intel integrated graphics — one of the very few things the MacBook Air has over the X301. There is an upgrade to 64-bit Vista should you choose to upgrade your RAM to 4GB. A DVD+-RW drive is present, and can be turned off to conserve battery, or be replaced with a secondary battery if you like.

Netbooks are the hottest trend in personal computers today. Their extremely small size and very low price tag make them very attractive to people looking for a low cost yet portable laptop that they can bring just about anywhere. They have opened up computing to a whole new group of people who didn’t feel they could afford a laptop previously. But is a netbook a good choice over a traditional laptop? This article looks into what exactly makes a netbook and how to decide if one is right for you.

If there is one area that could use improvement on the A45-S121, it is the connectivity. With the low cost and widely accessible 802.11b networks it would be nice to see it included on the system. The system does allow for a large number of peripherals thanks to its 4 USB 2.0 ports.

Consequently, most people are not in a position of having to buy a netbook as a full replacement at no additional computer peripherals

The Intel Pentium Processor SU2700 is a heart of Ultra Low Voltage processor that works better than a diploma Netbook Intel Atom processor, but not much. Single-core CPU Culver, do as opposed to the two hearts, they do not have good multitasking and is best for basic tasks. For general navigation via e-mail, web and office work, which make SU2700 well. The T135-S1300 same, but worse than the Lenovo IdeaPad U350, which is also a processor SU2700 (a concert, but additional RAM). Compared to other thin and light as the Lenovo IdeaPad U350 was the Adam Dell and Asus UL30A, the T135-S1300 to the least efficient of all.

Lack E7400 and Intel TXT (Trusted Execution Technology), which can be a problem if you use the software or e-commerce packages that require trusted computing require (TPM) environments. It is safe, the communication / encrypted. If you are a public service organizations, the TPM is a prerequisite, but for the average company, not necessarily TPM is not an ultimatum. (Even if the processor offers alternatives for Acer Veriton lower-speed/lower-capability CPU.)

But if the team is really secondary to complement a desktop or larger laptop, a netbook can be a very economical way to travel. Its small size and long  battery life is very good as a machine to open the way to the Internet via Wi-Fi access in hotels, airports and cafes. Finally, it is actually cheaper to buy a desktop and a netbook Complete a dedicated team of high-performance laptop.

The image quality is acceptable, but not surprising, however, a higher resolution than most 13.3-inch screens, reaching 1440 x 900 instead of 1280 x 800, a welcome change.

There are three USB ports (two on the left, a) to the rear, but no eSATA could be a problem for some, while mounted a display port connector and a VGA port on the rear, with the Ethernet connection, wireless On / off switch and power supply.

Since its limited computing tasks and the cost is a decisive factor, the number of functions in a netbook is less than you’d find in a traditional laptop or even an ultraportable. Elements such as CD / DVDs are not necessary and only additional cost and volume of the system. By eliminating the characteristics of this type, which can reduce the weight, size and power consumption. Consequently, most people are not in a position of having to buy a netbook as a full replacement at no additional computer peripherals such as external hard drives.

Energy Veriton uses only 39W at idle and 62W unhappy when running our benchmark Cinebench test (measured by the P3 International Kill-A-Watt), less electricity than conventional bulbs of many. However, green certificates, the line X270 EPEAT and others, we can seal our Greentech. The Aspire one uses internal power source, which means they have no power to reach on foot. Part of the insurance system and one years service is a bit short for a computer in the company, but passable for a low-cost model.

You want to disable Network Manager, Lenovo situation, the annoying every time you make a new network connection. Similarly, the notification program includes boring and Lenovo Manager updated often poorly placed, or the servers were offline during our tests. Fortunately, the widespread power management in the installation of XP is excellent, so we get to the battery booster if necessary.

Lenovo didn’t make any noticeable alterations to the previous X200 Tablet’s design

Metal, apparently, is in. Use of the material drew praise for the Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch and Acer AS3810T, and the UL30A-A1 uses it as well. The UL30A-A1’s top is draped in a brushed aluminum finish, a silver-tint that’s lighter than the one found in the Acer Aspire 3935 and practically the same color as the MacBook Pro. The Lenovo IdeaPad U350—another CULV laptop—uses textures reminiscent of expensive luggage, which also work in its favor.

The UL30A-A1 is elegantly thin because CULV processors eliminate the need for clunky fans. It stands a little taller than the MacBook Pro 13-inch because it uses a bigger 84Wh battery that props the unit up from the back, but measures thinner in its mid-section (12.7-by-9.3-by-0.8 inches, HWD). Another effect of a big battery is some weight gain, but in this case, it’s not too bad: The UL30A-A1 tips the scales at 3.9 pounds, just a shade heavier than the Lenovo U350 (3.6 lbs) and Acer AS38010T (3.6 lbs).

Lenovo didn’t make any noticeable alterations to the previous X200 Tablet’s design, although a thinner and lighter chassis would have made it even more compelling. In fact, it actually gains two-tenths of a pound because of the additional multitouch hardware, weighing in at 4.2 pounds. At some point, the X200’s weight will have to be addressed, as these devices are often used on the move, while resting on a forearm. In addition, smaller and lighter tablets are coming in the form of netbooks like the Viliv S7 and rumored ones from companies like Apple, which will make the tablet space a cutthroat market. Among its peers, though, namely the Fujitsu Lifebook T5010 (Multitouch), HP TouchSmart TX2z, and Toshiba Portégé M750 series, the X200 Tablet is still the lightest.

The HP Mini 311 ($470 direct) runs on an Intel Atom processor, but everything around it belongs to Nvidia, including the heralded Ion graphics. A slight catch, though: The 311 runs on the Ion LE version, where the “LE” is equivalent to an entry-level version of the Ion platform. Although 720p and 1080i (24 frames per second [fps]) movie clips played to perfection, 1080p (24fps) clips suffered some lag.

And despite offering better frame rates than Intel-based graphics, most of our high-end games were virtually unplayable on the Mini 311. Furthermore, it’s a little more expensive than your average netbook and its 5 hours of battery life fell well short of the 7-8 hour scores amassed by Intel-only netbooks. If your budget can only afford a netbook, but you still want to play and edit high definition videos, this is the model I would recommend. Otherwise, stick with the Toshiba mini NB205.

Rather than focusing in on all the issues with the Lenovo 3000 J115, let’s take a look at one of the things they did do well. While Intel may be on tops when it comes to mobile and high end desktop processors, AMD still offers a better performance value at the lower end of the price scale. Lenovo has chosen to use the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ dual core processor, still one of the best values when it comes to budget desktop computing and certainly better than the Pentium D’s offered in budget desktops.

The HP Envy 15–part of a new premium laptop line that borrows its name from the moribund Voodoo Envy 133–is also a Core i7 system based on a 15.6-inch display. The Envy 15 is one of the more portable Core i7 laptops measuring one inch thick and weighing 5.2 pounds, and it has a sleek etched magnesium case and a large glass touchpad. But it also starts at $1,799. The exact specs are unclear (HP is taking pre-orders, but it doesn’t ship until October 18), but novel options such as up to 16GB of memory and dual solid-state disks would push the price even higher.

Being a creature of habit, I removed most of the “trialware,” along with some other common programs I loathe, as shortly as I received the laptop. I was barely paying attention while doing this, but the whole technique for this review laptop seemed to go quickly. There were no apparent program issues, though I do find myself longing for Windows XP whenever I use a Vista machine. The availability of XP is reason #2 for my seriously considering the Vostro 1500 if I were in the market for a high-powered 15.4” laptop .

Guiding to choosing Laptops

The UL30A-A1, 13.3-inch LED display is standard in this category and the 1366-by-768, the U350 from Lenovo, Acer and AS3810T (021US MSI X340) is. If you get in a 14-inch widescreen monitor, you need a higher resolution options, such as found in the 1600 x 900 Dell Studio 14Z. Tile keyboard design, design, spacious all notebook manufacturers now use, from every single button and avoid typos. The touchpad emulates the MacBook Pro, as it integrates two fingers tap on a number of functions (but not crushed, pans and movements are as sensitive as the MacBook Pro). The buttons on the mouse click sound, but is otherwise pleasant to use.

The Mini 311 is what I would call a great Netbook. This is the same size as the Asus EeePC 1101HA, Acer Aspire One (A0751h) and Gateway in LT3103u that they are all widescreen 11.6 inches. At 3.3 pounds, is the largest among his colleagues, but the differences are slight. The Mini 311 is the most beautiful, even if it is as a printed signature of HP on a white background, pleasing to the eye. A black version is also available, although darker colors are usually a magnet for fingerprints and spots. Alternatively, you can improve the NB205, Toshiba and HP 5101 Mini-use of textures and metals, or their appearance, and then press the unsightly blemishes.

The problem with the J115 is that the specifications are not met for the rest of the system, the consumers, apart from other companies (or companies). All the problems stem from the fact that Lenovo is still focusing on selling PCs to business customers and not for the average consumer. Even if they said they intend to change this situation go, the current system does not meet this goal.

G60J The Asus G51J and have very similar characteristics. Both offer either the Core i7 720QM or Core i7 820QM up to 4 GB of RAM, Nvidia GeForce FX 260M with 1 GB, one or two hard drives and a DVD or Blu-ray. The difference is the screen-G51J has a 15.6-inch screen (1920 × 1200) and G60J has a 16 inch (1366 × 768) screen. The M60J Asus G60J is identical, except that it GB 240M GeForce GTX 1st The three books have the same dimensions and weight of 7.3 kilograms. Asus has announced that no amount of.

Much of what I found, while the Inspiron 1520 is compatible with (not far from being identical), what has been written elsewhere. There was only one thing that bothers me, laptop,  Battery ,my preference for the all black Vostro 1500 notwithstanding: the play on the latch of the screen when the notebook is closed. Is it big? I would say no, not at all.

It is more serious, but it also saves  battery APNdroid who is sincere. Click on the icon for your application, and its mobile EDGE/3G are extinct, while its call connection basis remains in force. It’s better than airplane mode, which makes you completely inaccessible, and used correctly, they are certainly the difference when you start charging every two days. Better still, as a plug-in locale is under construction, so turn off your phone when not needed can be seen.

The ThinkPad keyboard is an essential part of this convertible notebook, because it is one of the best in the industry. It’s just pointing stick, so you do not have the advantages of both and to control how the Lenovo ThinkPad T400) (Multi. The 12-inch widescreen is not that important (the T5010 has a wide-13-) inches, but 1280 x 800 resolution, the same as that of the competition. This is a rotating screen also an angle of 180 degrees and lays flat against the keyboard.

Apple’s new notebook offers good facilities at a price

Unlike most notebooks in class desktop replacement, the Satellite on the integrated Intel graphics-based part, and it is therefore highly suitable for demanding 3D games, but it would be good for a casual round of site-based Bejeweled. At first we thought that the high level of Intel WiFi Link 5100 A / G / N have the creation of networks that perform well, but also with a strong signal for the 802.11g standard, the L555-S7916 has 10 minutes to copy a 40MB file server. The MR-1 has a hard drive has 40 GB hard drive, 80 GB and the choice of solid-state drive is the FlipStart to its 30GB hard drive and 512 MB memory limit n is not scalable. The MR-1 with a capacity of 1 GB of RAM configuration with dual-slot, and is equipped with a touchscreen and uses the display technology DynaVue is as good as it gets and manufactures equipment used in all light conditions. We can not have a touchscreen with the FlipStart, and the screen has DynaVue treatment, which means that it is mainly for the interior.

Fujitsu offers two power options with the set U. The Standard Battery 7.2 Li-Ion Volt/2600mAH good package of 3.5 to 4 hours, depending on the configuration and operating system. The battery life doubled 7.2V/5200mAH.

The starting price in Japan is U.S. $ 1195, and presents the usual dilemma. Not much of this closely marvel of technology, but a good group of more than one of the laptops of today’s economy with infinitely more power and features. The market for the U-series in the position to those who can appreciate a Vista machine with a full keyboard, which weighs slightly more than a pound last exercise, almost all day on one  battery charge and can easily become a major screen and full-size keyboard for office work.

Realtek 802.11n radio better than the average sound speed of 23.2 Mbit / s mean at 15 meters from the best brands in the category of ultraportable as well as systems such as the 3810T and Acer, Lenovo IdeaPad U350. This configuration also comes with Bluetooth 2.1.

One of the most striking features in this book finds its razor-net premium large 15.4-inch WXGA + TFT LCD. 8204 Although a companion transmissive display (transmissive screen is bright), is still alive. Despite the quality of the screen is not as impressive as bright as the screens or HP BrightView Sony X-black, for example. We hope that his characters are brilliantly integrated Acer CrystalBrite display type of this series in the future.

Apple’s new notebook offers good facilities at a price. From the spacious design is clean, everything is exactly in this laptop, where it belongs, and the performance of the party system. We, Intel’s processor double heart, the whole system is faster than before thanks, so that the G4. Expect the MacBook with the battery even faster Intel’s power-saving Intel Core 2 Duo Merom or be updated shortly.

To protect your VAIO notebook, the SZ is the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) teamed for you to encrypt and decrypt data. You can use this function to the BIOS can get menu (hit F2) at startup.

The VAIO Power Management Viewer is an application that lets you change the system of power that affects the processor performance, battery life, brightness of the LCD, and the noise level. This is an excellent feature that allows you to adjust the level of performance, get a quiet fan and ensure that the battery is running more to change the additional parameters such as brightness LCD or d “from the optical drive.

However, the FlipStart is designed as a consumer product that the GoBook MR-1 was from the outset with the needs and requirements of government and industry and commerce developed in mind. The MR-1 meets or exceeds the 810F military in the event of shock, vibration and temperature and has an impressive entry of protection IP54 for protection against moisture, water, dust and spills. The FlipStart as a consumer quality product can be compared with her. For some reason, the FlipStart is even with an old 1.1 GHz Pentium M chip, while General Dynamics Itronix has the new, more powerful and energy efficient Intel Core Solo selected at 1.2 GHz.

Lets keep in mind the MacBooks unique features you wont find on any PC

The GoBook MR-1 offers “slice” expansion modules whereas the FlipStart cannot accommodate additional functionality. And while the FlipStart has 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth and is Sprint Mobile Broadband ready, the MR-1, in addition to Bluetooth, has the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG module for WiFi, a whole variety of 3G wireless options and embedded GPS. On the security front, the MR-1 has a fingerprint scanner and can be equipped with TPM 1.2. The FlipStart has neither and it also cannot come near the MR-1’s battery life. Then there are warranty and service. The MR-1 has a standard 3-year warranty with a Mobile Help Desk as well as a variety of comprehensive service level options for enterprise customers.

On the positive side, the L555-S7916 ships with a surprisingly useful software bundle. Highlights include Microsoft Works, Picassa 2, Corel DVD MovieFactory, Toshiba’s own DVD playback software, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and Symantec Norton Internet Security. It’s a wide-ranging package for light-duty office work and casual video or photo editing. The 320GB hard drive offers plenty of storage and seemed reasonably responsive for a 5400-rpm drive.

All-in-one PCs tend to discourage internal expansion, and the ZX6810 is the same: The only upgrade area you can get to are the already-filled memory slots. Thankfully, there are six USB 2.0 ports and the eSATA port for future expansion. The included TV tuner uses an annoying adapter cable to connect the included antenna or your own roof-mounted antenna. I am guessing they did this to accommodate other countries where they may not use US-standard F-type cable connectors. In any case, you can use the ZX6810-01 as an HDTV with the Media Center interface in Windows 7.

The T135 ships with a fair share of software, initially resulting in long boot times. This selection includes Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer, a trial of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 (including a compatibility pack, activation assistant, and PowerPoint viewer), and a trial of Norton Internet Security.

Image quality displayed is decent, with no drastic color distortion. When watching DVD movies, video quality is actually smooth and crisp but does lack the ‘true color’ vibrancy you would get from a glossy screen. Nevertheless, DVD playback is quite impressive for a matte screen. In 2D use,  Battery, the screen provides sufficient brightness and contrast, with colors appearing bright and vivid. Text is very sharp but some might be squinting due to its high-resolution. Of course, you can increase the font size to ease the strain.

Lets also keep in mind the MacBooks unique features you wont find on any PC: the MagSafe AC adapter, the robust software & operating system, the ability to boot Windows and Linux natively, beautiful display, remote control, slot-loading DVD burner, and intelligent power built-in. There are some things we would like to see to perfect this machine even more like include dedicated graphics, loose the weight, and maybe even reduce the thickness. Who should buy this machine? Students or anyone on a budget. You wont find a PC equivalent come close to the features loaded with the MacBook. Best of all, this laptop wont dent your wallet.

Adjusting the CPU fan noise can be accomplished with a total of five settings, with Level 1 being absolutely quiet and Level 5 optimized for performance. At the lowest setting, the laptop does appear to run a bit more quiet than usual. So does this actually minimize the fan noise? Slightly, but not enough to minimize the overall loud & constant noise.

The Toshiba also includes a DVD-R drive and 3GB of RAM. Ports are situated on the left and right sides of the case, with none on the hard-to-reach back. The left side includes VGA, ethernet, audio, and a combination eSATA/USB 2.0 port, something we’re seeing more often in recent units. The right side includes two more USB 2.0 ports, a modem port, and the requisite Kensington lock slot. The dual-duty SD Card/Memory Stick slot is in the front, next to an analog volume control knob. Talk about old-school!

Hard-copy documentation is limited to a resource guide and a setup poster

Hard-copy documentation is limited to a resource guide and a setup poster. The user manual–a PDF file on the system–is pretty good, but you’ll need to read it on-screen or print out a copy.

Despite the massive screen, the laptop weighs a surprisingly light 6.6 pounds, thanks in no small part to the relatively wimpy guts. Still, at 16.4 by 10.7 by 1.7 inches, the L555-S7916 feels a bit bulky and awkward to tote around town. Battery life was fairly impressive in our tests, at 3 hours, 32 minutes (the average for 17-inch power laptops is in the neighborhood of 2 hours, 30 minutes). Still, we’d trade in the battery life advantage for better performance, any day of the week.

General Dynamics Itronix took the FlipStart concept as a basis, but that is where the functional similarity between the currently available products ends. The GoBook MR-1 evolved not only into a vastly more durable and rugged device, but also a more modern, more powerful computer.

The system’s performance is pretty darn good, thanks to the Core 2 Quad processor, 8GB of system memory, and ATI Radeon HD graphics. Predictably, the system couldn’t run our highest resolution game tests (because the screen can only go up to 1,920-by-1,080 instead of 1,920-by-1,200), but the other tests ran flawlessly. The ZX6810-01 got a very good 7,925 point score on the PCMark Vantage test, outpacing other systems with quad core processors by several thousand points. No doubt due the speedy SSD is pushing its score up.

Other wins were the system’s 3DMark Vantage score (11,434), Crysis (39 fps), and World in Conflict (46 fps) at 1,280-by-1,024 resolution. World in Conflict is certainly playable, but you may have to dial the Crysis settings down a little more to get the ZX6810-01 to 45-60 fps playable frame rates.

The notebook comes with a one-year warranty and includes 24/7, toll-free phone support. To read about how Toshiba fared in our annual notebook tech support showdown, click here.

The response rate is certainly fast enough to keep up with games and movies without significant ‘ghosting.’ In addition, scrolling through a webpage full of text does not exhibit motion blur. For the most part the screen is evenly lit, however we unfortunately discovered a dead pixel; at least it didn’t distract me from the overall viewing pleasure.
