The Dell Vostro laptop offers the productivity that small businesses expect from the Vostro line of Dell laptops

I then installed and/or copied my key applications from the internal drive to the external drive. I didn’t worry about trying to make absolutely everything fit; only those programs I use regularly are installed on the SSD. For example, I chose to only install iPhoto out of the iLife ‘09 application suite–I rarely use GarageBand, iWeb or iDVD on my laptop, so I can just reboot and use them from the internal drive when the need arises.

It’s amazing the popularity of some of these things, and the companies that are building them and what you can do with some of these applications. There are a couple of issues that arise with applications, and one of them is standardization between different platforms. Whether it’s a BlackBerry platform, an iPhone platform or the Android Platform, it’s almost like the PC environment where you have a couple of different platforms that people need to develop for. I’m curious if you see that standardization happening?

The Dell Vostro laptop offers the productivity that small businesses expect from the Vostro line of Dell laptops which are equipped with the right features to complete on-the-go business tasks so small businesses can save time and money. “Ultrathin laptops with processors in the ULV class compare favorably with netbooks,” said Roger Kay, founder and president of Endpoint Technologies Associates. “The value proposition for small business travelers is simple: for slightly more money, you get all the portability you want but a lot better experience.”

The latter, the Dell Mini 3iX, we already came across once before on the Chinese market, but as is the case with the Chinese Apple iPhone 3GS, the Chinese model lacks the WiFi function. Recent information on the Dell Mini 3iX would suggest that the Android phone is capable of making a Wi-Fi connection. The Dell Mini 3iX Android Smartphone supports GSM, GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA, HSDPA and Bluetooth + EDR.

Rounding out the high-definition experience, Acer  is first to market with Dolby Home Theater Virtual Surround Sound, which place listeners in the middle of the onscreen action for a cinema-style experience at home or on the go. Featuring powerful and advanced digital signal processing technologies, Dolby Home Theater allows Acer Aspire 5920 users to enjoy music, movies, and games in vivid surround sound using two to six speakers or any pair of headphones.

Cooler Master has either intentionally or inadvertently produced a design which combats this effect. Air can flow easily inside the body of the cooler until it reaches the edges where the body of the laptop creates pinch points. The ‘X’ shape creates large, low resistance paths to the corners of the laptop and tight high-resistance paths to the near edges of the laptop. In theory this should entice more air to flow to the corners producing better cooling uniformity. The X2 departs slightly from the X1 by allowing more air to reach the entire rear side of the laptop easier than the front.

Available with a range of processor options including Intel’s  Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 running at 2.5GHz,  Dell’s New Studio laptops come with Gigabit Ethernet, Mobile Broadband (via either Sprint or Verizon) and Dell’s exclusive Wi-Fi Catcher which allows you to locate a wireless network to piggyback prior to even powering up the systems.

I found the machine attractive and lightweight. Its plastic casing comes in seven colors (black, white, pink, green, red, blue, and purple) and features attractive, curved edges. I also found the 10v easy to tote around in a shoulder or gym bag—even one not designed for a computer—since it weighs just 2.5 lb. and measures a compact 10.75 in. long and 7.5 in. wide when closed. Dell boasts that the 10v’s keyboard is 92% the size of a full keyboard.

Compaq’s Presario CQ61 is a fast and easy-to-use laptop for on-the-go computing. Boasting a 15.6″ screen (maximum resolution 1366×768) and powered by a 2GHz AMD Sempron processor, it’s fast and functional – and finished in a simple black.
